Palms Book State Park--Big Spring

Tuesday, August 9th.  We awoke to another beautiful day...sunny with lots of white puffy clouds.  After breakfast we went to Palms Book State Park, located on the other side of Indian Lake, where we're camped.  The focal point of this park is a spring that feeds this large 'pond'.  The spring feeds 10,000 gallons per second...that's right 10,000...of a constant 45 degree water into the pond.  The outfall from the pond goes into Indian Lake.  The water is crystal clear as the pictures will attest.  The water where the pictures was taken is about 45 feet deep and it looks like you could reach out and touch the bottom.  There's an observation raft that's on a cable that goes across the pond so you can see the large fish that come to the pond for a 'spa day' and the roiling sand where the spring is emitting the water.  The land containing the pond was donated to the State in 1926 with the condition that it always be a state park.  They've done a great job of public access and viewing opportunities.

A big wind blew in in the evening.  We took in our awnings and lowered our Dish antenna.  It rained most of the night.
